The Shipping Decree of 1 June 2022 gives “De Vlaamse Waterweg nv” the authority to prosecute and impose fines for certain violations of theinland shipping regulations. To ensure this is done correctly, transparent and unambiguous manner, an index of monetary fines has now been created.
The index of monetary fines (link to appendix) makes it easier than ever before to check which basic fine is associated with which violation. This document specifies the minimum and maximum penalty for administrative fines. The index of monetary fines issued by De Vlaamse Waterweg nv has also been benchmarked against other waterway authorities both at home and abroad. This index helps to avoid large differences in terms of fines.
In the event of violations, De Vlaamse Waterweg nv will not immediately proceed with recovery. A proposal to pay an administrative fine, amounting to half of the maximum fine, has been incorporated in the index of monetary fines. Easy to use and clear, enabling certain violations to be dealt with quickly.
With its new authority and the development of the index of monetary fines, De Vlaamse Waterweg nv wants to increase the safety on the waterways and ensure equal treatment of all waterways users
